At Verdel Florist, we aspire to a sustainable future for our customers and the environment. To accomplish this we have aligned our sustainability policy with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations.
We exemplify our commitment to the SDGs through three strategic pillars, which serve as the foundation for our actions and projects. Our primary objectives are to minimize our ecological footprint across all facets of our business, establish a secure and sustainable workplace for everyone in the industry, and ensure transparency regarding our environmental and social endeavours to all our stakeholders. This way, we are dedicated to maintaining FM Group's leadership in sustainability and fostering positive change. Together, we are working towards a better world.
To create a more eco-friendly future, we work together with other organisations and initiatives. We are involved in the Floriculture Sustainability Initiative (FSI), where we join forces with fellow members to reach a shared objective: by 2025, 90% of our trade will come from certified and sustainable sources. Alongside partners like Royal FloraHolland, Royal Lemkes, Floral Trade Group and Dutch Flower Group, we're part of 'The Accelerators' and have committed to a manifesto to speed up the achievement of FSI's goals and those of other initiatives.
Transparency is our promise for the future. We ensure that our business operations, their effects on people and the environment, and the impact of our products are clear and easily understood. We adhere to the CSRD legislation for sustainable reporting, ensuring that everything we represent and work on can be verified. Therefore, at FM Group, transparency is a fundamental principle of our corporate social responsibility (CSR/CRS) initiatives. We procure plants and flowers from various regions worldwide, and we believe it's crucial for our customers to have access to information about the products we offer. Our aim is to buy plants and flowers from growers with multiple sustainability certifications, aligning with the Floriculture Sustainability Initiative (FSI) standards for environmental, agricultural, and social sustainability. We work closely with growers seeking FSI compliance, offering support through informative sessions. Additionally, we're currently evaluating the sustainability of packaging to make eco-friendly choices for ourselve, for our growers and for our customers. To conclude, sustainable procurement plays a significant role in our overall policy. We empower our customers to make informed choices and offer information about various sustainability labels in our webshop. For certification details, visit here.
We actively reduce CO2 emissions from our operations, using eco-friendly electricity in all branches. Additionally, through calculating our company's carbon footprint, we are making targeted, evidence-based efforts to identify areas for improvement. Consequently, we've transitioned to energy-efficient facilities (LEDs, solar panels, rainwater storage). We're developing plans to reduce commuting and product transportation's environmental impact. Our waste management includes a customer collection system recovering 1,200+ tons of waste yearly. Furthermore, we are exploring ways to reduce our waste generation, adopt a more circular approach, harness waste for energy generation, and potentially utilize waste to create sustainable products.
